Past Student Profiles

My name is Tom Knight and I studied at St David’s from 2013-2015. The subject that I was interested in the most was Music. I was very nervous about starting the AS level music course because I was under the impression it would be ridiculously hard. But when I arrived and met Miss York, the head of Music, I was immediately put at ease. The course is challenging but Miss York made it interesting and fun for all of us and gave us incredible amounts of help throughout the two years.

Thanks to Miss York and the staff at St David’s I am now leaving to studying at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on the BMus Popular Music course with my principal instrument as Electric Guitar. I cannot wait to start and to further my music career. It is a dream come true.

Thank you Miss York. Thank you St David’s.

My name is Poorya Moghbel. I studied for my GCSEs at St Illtyd’s High School and chose to further my education by studying for my A levels at St David’s College. I chose Biology, Chemistry and Maths for A level, and Physics as an AS.

Being given the chance to be in the Honours Programme contributed greatly to my success at St David’s. It built up my confidence in debating sessions, but also allowed me to reflect on my progress, as we were able to speak to our tutors regularly.

The environment at St David’s is friendly and caring. I can wholeheartedly say that whenever I had a issue - whether personal or regarding my studies, and I needed to speak to someone - there was always a teacher or tutor available to listen, and to help me resolve my concern.

I would very much like to say thank you to my Chemistry, Biology and Maths teachers, along with all the staff at St David’s who made my success possible. Admittedly, some days where hard, such as an exam result not going the way I wanted, but the teachers never give up on me and only encouraged me further. With their help, and a lot of hard work and dedication, I received the results I needed to progress on for my degree at Cardiff University.

The university preparation at St David’s was excellent. I was given plenty of help and guidance from my tutor and teachers about my personal statement, as well as detailed information about courses, universities, entry criteria, finance and much more.

I am currently reading Medical Pharmacology at the School of Medicine at Cardiff University. I hope to train to be a doctor, and so I have applied read Medicine at Imperial College London, Brighton and Sussex, Leicester and Plymouth Medical School next year.

I studied English and Drama A levels under Jan Free at St David’s I left in 1992. I went on to study drama at uni and have enjoyed a career in television, 10 years at the BBC directing and producing documentaries and now I’m a freelance TV producer working on a documentary about mountains ranges across the world, I will shortly be travelling to Nepal.

I didn’t really know what I wanted to do when I was at sixth form! I loved drama though and really enjoyed it the course. Hoping my son will be coming to St David’s he has just started year 7 at Corpus!

- Sophie Fairs, class of 1992

I studied Chemistry, Biology and Psychology at St David’s College between 2011 and 2014 and I have now moved on to study for a degree in Biochemistry at the University of Southampton.

I chose to progress to St David’s College after completing my GCSEs at Mary Immaculate High School for a number of reasons. The most important of which was because the college gave me the opportunity to focus on the areas of study that appealed to me most.

With the help and support of all of my teachers, I was able to achieve A level grades that were beyond what I expected of myself.

The friendly advice and assurance of my teachers helped me to push myself to apply for top Russell Group universities. The constant support available for all aspects of my student life was key to ensuring that my college experience was an educational but also enjoyable one.

St David’s helped to become a mature, responsible and confident person and gave me the right support and guidance to be able to achieve what I have. I made many great friends during my time there and have only the students and staff at St David’s to thank for the memories I was lucky enough to make.

In the future I hope to be able to use all the knowledge I have gained throughout my education to do further study in the form of a PhD, followed by research and development in the pharmaceutical industry.

- Alexander Lester, class of 2014

I went to St David’s College from Corpus Christi High School because I felt the college had the best facilities, teachers, and past results. I was not disappointed. I am now studying Forensic Science at the University of the West of England.

My personal tutor at St David’s helped me to get my university application to a very high standard, and all of my subject teachers fully supported me to gain the highest marks I could. I enjoyed my time at St David’s because I made many new and amazing friends. In the future I hope to either become a secondary school science teacher or to work with a forensic science company. I feel St David’s has given me the best opportunity to achieve my goals.

- Taboka Hyde, class of 2014

My name is Anna Golton. I went to Corpus Christi High School. I am currently studying Care Studies at the University of South Wales. While at St David’s I studied Health and Social Care and Applied Science. My personal tutor at St David’s supported me in my choice by helping me to complete my UCAS application, and held sessions with me in order to practise my interviewing techniques.

The course tutors were also helpful when I was studying at the College. They were always made time for me and I knew I could always e-mail them if I was having any problems with my work. They were approachable and encouraging at all times.
