Welsh every day

We want to hear Welsh in college every day! Everyone- staff and student- is offered a lanyard with a Welsh speaker or Welsh learner symbol. Wear yours with pride, look for the symbol and use your Welsh with the person who wears it.

Bilingualism around the college

Every visible sign, poster, notice and publication which originates in college will be in Welsh and English.

Every policy and procedure, and every page of our website is available in Welsh.

When using Linc, our intranet, click on the language button to see the content in Welsh.

Clwb Clebran – Welsh Conversation Club

Students and staff get together to chat informally in Welsh over lunch once a week. Come to chat, or even just to listen, and there will be support for you to practise if you’re learning.

The club takes place every Monday lunchtime at 13.05pm in room 2.18 in the main building.

Please eat your lunch before attending as food is not allowed in the conference room.

For more information, please contact Ms Mared Whelan on Teams or email mwhelan@stdavidscollege.ac.uk.

Celebrating the Welsh language and Culture

As a Welsh college in Cardiff, Capital City of Wales, we celebrate our Welshness and encourage everyone to use the Welsh they have. We want our students to keep and develop their Welsh language skills during their time at college, and to develop pride in their identity, whatever their background or language ability.

On October 15 remember to say Shwmae when you meet someone!

Look out for students and staff who wear the Cymraeg badge on their lanyard and remember you can always greet them in Welsh!

Our community is vibrant and multicultural and we celebrate all our nationalities, cultures and languages, including Wales and the Welsh language, on Culture Day.

St David is the patron saint of our college, as well as the patron saint of Wales! We celebrate St David’s Day with a special lunch and Mass every year on 1 March.
