In a heartwarming display of holiday spirit, the Filipino Society (FilSoc) brought Christmas joy to a school in the Philippines through the proceeds raised at the Christmas Market.

FilSoc raised over £200 during their festive bake sale, which became a popular stop for students and staff alike. With an array of delicious sweet treats and a lively, welcoming atmosphere, FilSoc once again demonstrated why it’s one of the most vibrant and inclusive clubs in college.

In addition to baking their own goods, FilSoc collaborated with local Filipino businesses to offer authentic Filipino delicacies, adding a special cultural touch to their stall.

The funds raised were donated to Gosoon Elementary School, located in Carmen, Agusan del Norte, Philippines. Thanks to FilSoc’s generous contribution, the school was able to provide essential supplies, coloring books, presents, and snacks for the kindergarten students.

Carmen, a coastal municipality in the Caraga region of Mindanao, is renowned for its lush landscapes and tropical rainforest climate, making it a picturesque and vibrant part of the Philippines.

Due to the lack of funding for the school, families of the children who attend the school help out as much as they can in maintaining the building and fixing reparis, which become more necessary due to recent flood seasons, causing typhoons across much of the Philippines.

As the families are already doing their best to keep the school a safe and comfortable learning environment, the Filipino Society wanted to help in any way possible, to show recognition to the hard work of the community.

The success of the bake sale reflects not only the generosity and community spirit of the college but also a shared commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

FilSoc extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported the cause, whether through donations or by enjoying the delicious baked goods. Well done to all involved—a wonderful example of compassion and Christmas cheer.
