It’s been a morning to remember for students and staff at St David’s College, as the long wait for results gave way to celebrations and a sense of achievement.
Nerves quickly turned to excitement as St David’s College grades surpassed national averages.
More students than ever completed their courses, highlighting the resilience and hard work of a cohort who deserve to celebrate every step of their achievements.
Three students are progressing to study Dentistry at Cardiff University, and three students have confirmed their places at Oxford.
There are big successes for students who are part of the Medicine, Dentistry and Vet Science Programme. All ten students who had offers to study Medicine were successful in achieving their places, including places at Cardiff, Exeter, Bangor, Bristol, Birmingham and Brighton. One student is also going on to study Veterinary Science and another Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, two highly competitive courses.
We will get a bigger picture of university successes as more students confirm their places. Currently, more than 500 students have secured places at university.
30% of grades at A Level were an A* or an A, up from the national average.
58% of grades at A Level were an A*-B, up 3.1 percentage points from the national average.
St David’s learners excelled at the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales, with 11.4% of grades being A*, and all benchmarks being above national averages.
25% of grades at AS Level were an A, 45.6% of grades were an A-B, up 3.1 percentage points from the national average, and 67.7% of grades were an A-C, up 4 percentage points from the national average.
The St David’s Honours Programme, the programme for more able and talented learners, achieved particularly strong results. 24.1% of A Level grades were an A*, while 84% of grades were within A* – B.
BTEC students have also excelled, with 57% of extended diploma learners achieving grades between D*D*D* and DDD – an increase of 17.1 percentage points on last year – while 100% of learners successfully passed their qualification.
Joyce Wangechi Sanga excelled throughout her time at St David’s and is leaving with an incredible four A*s. She’ll be studying Nursing at Swansea University this September and described St David’s as an “incredibly supportive College and a great place to learn.”
Joe Hankey achieved three As during his time here, describing St David’s as “a great next step and a place to find yourself.” Joe will be studying at the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama this September.
Francesco Venditto celebrated three As and an A* with his friends this morning and is now preparing to start flight school.
It was a morning to remember for friends Clara Good and Erin Hart, with Clara going to study Marketing at Swansea University and Erin progressing to study Architecture at Cardiff University.
Congratulations to Ben Morton, a former Corpus Christi learner, who achieved four A*s and is going to study Film at Durham, and Rosalyn Mortimer, who achieved D*D*D*, alongside BAB at A Level; two students who have balanced their studies while being incredibly active in College life.
“There are moments in education that feel so warming, and seeing young people open their results and realise that the future they have worked towards is now within reach is certainly one of those moments – even if it is not the plan they initially thought.
We have watched these young people grow in confidence and courage, and now seeing them take their next steps is the greatest privilege.
These results belong to our students, but reflect the commitment of our teachers and staff. Their expertise and patience have helped these young people reach this moment.
We now look ahead to the next students arriving in September, and the excitement of new learners starting their chapter with us.”
