“I am delighted to confirm that you have achieved the Carers Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support reaccreditation.” – Ms N. Skyes (QSCS Development Worker)
On October 1st, St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College was awarded the Carers Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support, reaffirming our ongoing commitment to improving support systems and services for young carers within our college community.
Learners reflected on the positive impact of our support services, with one learner describing their experience as “overwhelming,” having had no support throughout high school. Another learner shared, “Staff and Wellbeing understood the impact of care and support, taking away some of the stresses of college life.”
“St. David’s has shown continued support for young carers, enhancing its processes and systems to establish a robust and unified framework. There was clear evidence of a compassionate college ethos with a holistic approach to carer support, encompassing pastoral care, wellbeing, and teaching staff.”
As part of our strategic improvements, the role of Young Carer Lead has transitioned to the Safeguarding and Wellbeing team, enabling a more “forward-planning and proactive approach.” While Mr Roberts, the previous lead, remains deeply involved in advocacy and support.
Mr Roberts explained that this reallocation allows for expanded and dedicated support, providing the resources needed to ensure equality of support across our college community. With ongoing training, awareness, and promotion of young carer support programs, we will continue to improve our services for young carers throughout their academic years of study.
We are tremendously proud of our staff’s commitment to supporting the college community, ensuring that learners’ academic journeys are ones they will remember fondly. Congratulations to everyone involved in this outstanding achievement.
