From dramatic last-minute winners to emphatic victories, our sports teams at St David’s College have made a flying start to the year.
In fact, across our rugby, football and both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, St David’s are yet to lose a competitive game.
Three years on from rugby’s return to St David’s College, the programme is going from strength to strength and shaping up for its best year yet.

With some matches now taking place at the Roath Recreational Ground, students can more easily show up and get behind the team.
This added support seems to have already had a real impact, as in their first match of the season against Bishop of Llandaff, they stormed to a 47-0 victory.

The boys kept up the momentum heading into their second match of the campaign against Ysgol Bro Morgannwg.
It was another dominant display, with four tries and two conversions securing a 24-0 victory and another five points.

With ten points already on the board, the team will be looking to notch up another victory when they take on Y Pant next week at St Peter’s.
It’s been a thrilling start to the season for the football academy this year.

The boys’ first team won their first game of the year, a pre-season friendly against Cardiff City Foundation, 5-0.
Next up was the first game of the campaign proper: a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Coleg y Cymoedd.

The team picked up their first competitive win a week later in a high-scoring cup game against Cardiff and Vale College.
After a frenetic 90 minutes, the score was 6-6, but thanks to some excellent spot kicks, St David’s have booked their place in the next round.
Like the other programmes, it is shaping up to be another incredible year for basketball at St David’s.

The boys got off to the perfect start away to UCS, securing a massive 88-55 win.
Mike Wells topped the scoresheet for the Saints, scoring 20 points, while the moment of the game came when Maciek Zelga scored a monster dunk over two UCS players.

The second game of the season was just as memorable, as our 1st and 2nd teams went head-to-head in the first round of the AoC Cup.
Both sides did themselves proud and made it a competitive match for much of the game. However, as the game went on, the 1st team pulled away, winning 80-30.

It’s been an equally impressive start to the year for the girls’ team, who took on Cardiff Met BUCS 2nds in their opening game.
It was a tightly contested affair, with the lead constantly changing hands throughout. However, the girls showed real composure when it mattered most, securing a one-point win as the game ended 37-36 in their favour.
With the school year in full swing and the sports teams up and running, 26-27 is shaping up to be a campaign to remember.
So come down, make some noise and support the teams!
