St David's College students standing on stairs outside of Shakespeare's Globe

Earlier this month, thirty AS and A2 English students headed to London for a day of sightseeing and a performance of Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe.

The visit offered students the opportunity to experience Shakespeare’s work in performance, bringing their studies to life in the unique setting of one of the world’s best-known theatres.

Exploring London

The day began with a coach tour of some of London’s most recognisable landmarks, including Chelsea Barracks, Tate Modern, Westminster Cathedral, Big Ben and the London Eye.

Before the performance, there was also time to explore the South Bank, enjoy the views across the River Thames and soak up the atmosphere before heading to the Globe.

Bringing Shakespeare to Life

The highlight of the visit was watching Much Ado About Nothing at the Globe. The lively performance brought the play to life, while the theatre’s historic setting gave students a real sense of what it might have been like to watch a play in Elizabethan times.

There was also an unexpected highlight after the show, when the group met one of the actors in the theatre shop. He kindly took the time to chat with students and pose for a photograph, providing a memorable end to the theatre experience.

A Memorable Day

The enthusiasm continued on the journey home, with some students already discussing plans to return to London during half term to see the production again.

The visit was a wonderful opportunity for our students to combine their studies with a shared cultural experience, deepening their appreciation of Shakespeare while enjoying a memorable day in London.
