Saints Basketball: Autumn Term Round-up

The Basketball Academy has had a busy schedule so far this term.

Women’s basketball was the first to get underway, as they travelled to Richard Huish College for a game against Huish and Truro, getting a win against Truro before losing to an experienced Huish team. The Men’s team then came up against Huish’s 2nd team in the cup, winning 71 – 44.

The Men’s team learned a valuable lesson against a tough CAVC side with a heavy loss, before recuperating against the CAVC 2nds in the AOC Cup winning 80-46.

The Men’s team came second in the Wales regional tournament, with a few key players unavailable, but the team came together to win some very close games.

The Women’s team hosted the Basketball Wales Schools tournament for years 11-13. The team showed togetherness but lost 31-38 to YG Glantaf but then went to sudden death against Cathays when the match finished 26-26. Zoe Ioannides sank the winning basket to win the game for St David’s.

The Men’s team had their first home game against Exeter College. Ravi Edirimuni showed quality on the offensive end but a few key defensive players missing meant that the team struggled with rebounds, and Exeter left with the win.

The Men ended the term by welcoming Truro College to St David’s, winning 63 – 53. Two big performances from David Wells (27pts) and Ravin Edirimuni (26pts) saw the team celebrate their first home win of the season.
