Emily and Sophia have shown remarkable dedication, compassion, and support for the local community, providing care for its vulnerable individuals.

Emily spends her time outside of college working for Mirus Wales, helping individuals with learning needs. She focuses on improving patient physical and emotional well-being through personalised care plans. Life skills, emotional and physical support, and promoting a sense of independence are among some of these personalised goals.

Additionally, she dedicates hours to completing domestic tasks and helping individuals with their medication via a MAR chart. Her confidence and compassion for others shine through her support for the local community outside of college.

 

Medical and Personal Care

Sophia provides personal and medical care to vulnerable individuals within the local community. Her day-to-day tasks include manual handling, assisting individuals with transferring in and out of bed, personal hygiene, incontinence care, and managing catheters.

Her duties are crucial for cleaning individuals and their spaces, preparing meals and drinks, and improving their quality of life. She emphasises the importance ofcompiling notes for every service user after each visit to say exactly what I’ve done and report any concerns about the patient like redness in areas as this could develop into a sore.”

These reports require high attention to detail to ensure the well-being and safety of her vulnerable patients. They showcase their compassionate care for these vulnerable individuals through the hard work they both commit outside of college hours.

 

Skills for the Future

Through their hands-on experiences, these learners have gained invaluable skills such as active listening, problem-solving, and resilience, which will serve them both well in pursuing their future careers. Emily and Sophia’s commitment to providing high-quality care will undoubtedly add to the progression of their future healthcare careers while positively impacting the local community.
