St David’s College came alive this week, with our students turning fun and creativity into real change for Cancer Charity Week.

Over the past four days, our learners have gone above and beyond to raise money for a number of incredible organisations supporting people in Cardiff and beyond.

From baking sweet treats to face painting and darts tournaments, the college community came together to make a real difference during Cancer Charity Week Cardiff.

The week’s activities

Things got underway on Monday, with raffle ticket sales beginning in the morning. By lunchtime, activities were in full swing, including an Easter egg hunt, bake sale, henna tattoos, and the launch of the esports and darts tournaments.

Students painting

As the week went on, learners joined in a range of fun activities, including face painting, a “guess the teacher” baby photo challenge, and live music as the Battle of the Bands took centre stage in the atrium.

There was also a picnic outside the George Stack building on Thursday, adding to a packed schedule of activities throughout the week.

The main activities have now wrapped up, but excitement continues as we announce the raffle and tournament winners at lunchtime on Friday, capping off another successful round of St David’s College fundraising.

Why do we do it?

While the week has been full of fun, it has also highlighted an important cause. Cancer is a disease that, directly or indirectly, affects many millions of people, making the work of support organisations like Maggie’s cancer support more vital than ever.

Maggie Keswick Jencks founded the charity in 1996, building it on the belief that people should not “lose the joy of living in the fear of dying.” Over the past 30 years, Maggie’s cancer support has helped more than 4 million people across the UK.

With 27 centres nationwide, including one here in Cardiff, the money raised during the week will have a meaningful impact both locally and beyond.
