St David’s Catholic College held its annual Leavers’ Celebration this week in the beautiful setting of Cardiff’s Metropolitan Cathedral of St David, bringing together students, staff, families, and friends to honour the achievements of the Class of 2025.

The ceremony was a moving tribute to the learners who have now completed their studies at the College and are preparing to take their next steps into higher education, employment, or training.

Dean, Charlotte Hember, opened the proceedings by acknowledging the growth of every learner who is now leaving St David’s College. While we often look to academic success to prove our success, it is the stories of courage, compassion for others, and generosity that shaped the stories of the evening.

Valedictorian, Thabo Mhlanga, delivered a powerful and moving speech. He spoke of thanks to the staff members, teachers, and people who do the ‘heavy-lifting’, and how this evening was a celebration of them as much as the students.

Musical performances seperated the awards, with songs carefully chosen to reflect the growth of learners. Iren Thomas and Lily Howells performed both seperately and ended with a powerful duet of ‘For Good’. Pianist, Carmelo Cellupica delivered a beautiful and calming performance of Liebestraum No.3.

Prayers, readings, and music gave the evening a deep sense of celebration and thanks. At the same time, awards were presented in honour of both past members of the community and inspiring figures of faith. Each award highlighted the courage, service, and integrity of those who continue to shape the identity of St David’s College. Principal Geraint Williams closed the event with a reflection on the words of St David:

“Do the little things, be joyful, keep the faith”.

Drawing inspiration from this message, Mr Williams encouraged students to carry forward not only their academic skills, but also their values—faith in themselves, in their teachers, and in the communities they will go on to serve.

Well done to everyone who won an award – the mark you have made on St David’s during your time there will be carried forward.
