Last week, a group of our learners headed to the beating heart of Welsh sport – the Principality Stadium – to take part in a major Welsh esports competition.
Representing St David’s, they competed in the finals of the Esports Wales and the Welsh Rugby Union Minecraft Cymru League 26, facing colleges from across Cardiff.

Earlier this year, teams in this Welsh esports competition battled it out in a round-robin format, with the top performers earning their place in the semi-finals and finals at the Principality Stadium.
Despite it being their first year in the Minecraft Cymru League, our learners impressed throughout. They finished second in their group and secured their spot on finals day.

The whole day was made all the more exciting by the fact that this college esports Wales final took place at such an incredible venue: the Principality Stadium.
Our learners and members of staff arrived on site at midday, but, with their match not taking place until 2pm, they had time to take a tour.

This saw them go behind the scenes at the country’s most famous venue.
From stepping inside the dressing rooms to walking down the players’ tunnel and out onto the pitch, it was an experience few will forget during this standout Welsh esports competition.
When it was time to compete, St David’s faced Cynon Valley Esports in a creative showdown in the Minecraft Cymru League finals.

The brief: imagine Wales in 2050, with a focus on sustainability and renewable energy.
Rising to the challenge, our learners produced an impressive build inspired by the Pierhead Building and the surrounding waterfront, showcasing both creativity and technical skill in this college esports Wales event.
