Congratulations to the St David’s Basketball Academy for reaching the AoC British Colleges Cup Finals on the 3rd May, playing against Itchen College in Wolverhampton.
The Men’s Basketball team had qualified for the AoC British Colleges Cup Finals after a very competitive cup run, coming up against some of the best academies in the UK; A massive achievement for these players, having poured all of their effort into every game this season to make this opportunity possible.
St David’s Basketball played Itchen, one of the largest Basketball programmes in Britain, in a high standard, intense, extremely close and competitive game throughout with St David’s leading the score board with 65-64 at half time.
Although, there was no room for early celebrations as the game remained close and St David’s found themselves falling behind after reaching the third quarter of the game with a close score of 69-72.
Despite this set back, St David’s managed to recover their momentum with some extraordinary points to take this game to extra time with a tied score of 93-93 at full time.
Unfortunately, with only a minute left to go, the momentum of the game had swung against St David’s with the score being a close 101-100 to Itchen College.
The boys were devastated to not have won the Cup Final, but they certainly did St David’s proud with achieving AoC British Colleges runners up for the 2022-23 season with proof that their hard work and effort paid off.
“We’re proud of how far the boys have come this season and the level of determination they’ve shown through each game.”
“They put in an outstanding performance in making it to this season’s AOC Cup final.” – James
Congratulations to the St David’s Basketball men’s team for their determination and effort, well done to the coaches, and everyone else involved for giving their all.
