Supporting Future Healthcare Professionals at St David’s Catholic College
St David’s offers a tailored enrichment programme for learners aiming for careers in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine. The programme helps you build the skills, experience and confidence needed for competitive UCAS applications, admissions tests and interviews.
How it works...
- Weekly sessions after college, alternating between Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth groups.
- Learners join a dedicated Microsoft Team for updates, resources and opportunities.
- Led by Dr Bekki Shuttleworth, Ms Olivia McLaren and the Launchpad team, with valuable input from alumni now studying or practising in these fields.
- 70–90 learners take part each year.
Lower Sixth...
- Take part in virtual work experience, lectures, volunteering and guided reading.
- Hear from current Medical, Dental and Veterinary students about university life.
- Build understanding of the profession and gather material for your application.
- Explore ethical issues and related careers.
Preparing for Applications...
After summer exams—and into early Upper Sixth—the focus moves to:
- Personal Statement guidance
- Admissions Test preparation
- 1:1 and group support to help you make informed choices and submit a strong application.
Upper Sixth
- Practical sessions on communication, interview technique and body language.
- Mock Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) to build confidence and performance.
In recent years, 52 learners have secured places on Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine courses. We’re committed to helping many more achieve their ambitions and make a positive impact in the future.
