Esports Students from St David’s College were honoured to support Esports Wales, PE Direct, and Ysgol Y Deri in organising Wales’ first Accessible Esports Tournament. This event highlighted the importance of inclusion, innovation, and collaboration in education and Esports.
“When people ask me what esports is all about, I wish they could witness what happened here today.” – IT & Esports Teacher at St David’s College, Mr Hazel.
The tournament at Ysgol Y Deri in Penarth featured Mario Kart competitions tailored for different accessibility needs. With adaptive technology like accessible controllers, every learner had the chance to compete and celebrate Esports.
Our Esports students provided one-on-one support, fostered a lively atmosphere, and delivered exciting live commentary during gameplay. We are proud of the professionalism, positivity, and leadership displayed by our Esports learners. They showcased the core values of our college community and left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
IT & Esports Teacher at St David’s College, Mr Hazel, noted:
“To see the participants’ smiles and to watch our students put into practice the skills they’ve developed over their two years on the Esports course made me appreciate just how important courses like this are for the next generation. Being involved in sports all my life, this is the first time I’ve seen an activity that is 100% inclusive and accessible to all.”
Disability Sports Wales praised the event, highlighting how esports can promote inclusivity and break down barriers. However, this event was a celebration of diversity, accessibility, and human connection.
We are passionate about providing learners with real-world experiences that foster confidence, empathy, and a sense of purpose. However, these events exemplified those values, such as teamwork, respect, and the belief that everyone deserves a space to thrive.
These learners supported something so powerful, and we look forward to continuing our work with partners like Esports Wales, PE Direct and Ysgol Y Deri to grow opportunities like this across the country. A very well done to everyone involved.
