Maggies 5km Walk

What started as a rainy Sunday morning soon turned into a day full of smiles, support, and shared purpose as our students volunteered at the Maggie’s 5km Family Walk, helping to raise vital funds for cancer care.

The day began with a burst of energy as a marching band led the walkers from the starting line. Volunteers from the college were stationed throughout the route, acting as markers and providing encouragement and support to participants as they made their way around the park.

Halfway through the walk, everyone was treated to cheerful performances from a ukulele band, playing favourites such as Country Roads and Hit the Road Jack, which lifted spirits and created a real sense of community.

Adding to the excitement, Welsh rugby player Teddy Williams made a surprise appearance to offer some motivational words before the start of the walk. Although he was unable to join due to his recent injury, his visit inspired walkers.

After completing the route, participants were welcomed back with a selection of cakes and sandwiches, as well as performances from two of our talented students, Iren and Lily — a perfect way to end a meaningful morning.

One of the student volunteers, Patryk, shared, “It was really nice to help out and see how passionate people are about battling cancer. It made me appreciate how important events like this are and how they bring people together for a good cause.”

Getting involved in community events like the Maggie’s Walk not only supports an incredible charity but also allows students to engage with others, gain new perspectives, and make a positive difference.

Maggie’s provides free support and advice for people living with cancer and their families across the UK. Taking part in events such as this helps ensure they can continue offering that much-needed care and compassion.
