Our main objective is to act as representatives for the student community around College, giving learners influence on College decisions.
We prioritise bringing people together, whether this is through events, ideas, or the diverse responsibilities of all roles. Alongside this, the Catholic ethos of our college remains a fundamental aspect of our work, specifically the sense of community we aim to create.
We constantly concern ourselves with improving college in all aspects for students, utilising our own connections, first-hand experience, and collaboration to achieve this goal. We act as a medium between learners and staff. If a student at St David’s Catholic College ever feels like they do not have a voice, we can be that voice.
Why is it important to have this student voice?
With the extensive diversity of our college, this must be reflected in all the decisions made that impact students. Having a council helps us ensure consideration of students’ wants and needs around college, from feedback on our education to the social foundations of College life.
People can feel connected to decisions made which impact them, and therefore, more in control. No one at college should feel restricted in their ability to contribute or communicate with the members of staff who hold influence. It is our responsibility to ensure this student voice is heard.

As a Catholic and Ethos Officer, I see the Student Council as a way to live our faith through action — serving others, promoting kindness, and building a community rooted in respect and compassion. It’s not just about leadership, but about being Christ’s hands in our school.”

This is a new position the council is trialling, following a gap in roles regarding the importance of extracurriculars for students across the college. Including sport and all clubs, this is a crucial aspect of student life that needs to be considered by the council and addressed in accordance with student demands and development.
“A strong school council empowers students to lead, inspire change, and shape a school where every voice matters and every idea has the power to grow.”
