Esports BTEC Level 3 Overview

 

Esports BTEC Level 3 was developed to meet the growing demand for skills in the fast-growing e-sports industry. It equals two A levels and spans a two-year study period, making it suitable for learners who want to progress to employment in esports. This can possibly open opportunities for an apprenticeship, or entrance into higher education after college.

This qualification offers a unique opportunity to explore multiple subject areas, including sports, marketing, enterprise, IT, and creative subjects. Additionally, it enables learners to gain transferable skills that employers in the industry highly value, such as effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to apply creative solutions to problem-solving.

The British Esports Association endorses this qualification for learners aspiring to work in the industry. This recognition from employers supports entry into various roles within the esports industry, including professional gaming, event management, and broadcasting.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the British Esports Student Championships, where they will compete against various colleges around the UK.

Upon completing the course, students can continue their education by pursuing a degree in fields such as events management, media, or Esports, among other higher education programmes.

Whatever path you choose, our Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Esports will equip you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in an exciting and rapidly growing industry.

Learners will complete 5 mandatory units over the two years:

  • Introduction to Esports
  • Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis
  • Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry
  • Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players
  • Esports Events

and 4 optional units from:

  • Live-streamed Broadcasting
  • Producing an Esports Brand
  • Video Production
  • Games Design
  • Business Applications of Esports in Social Media
  • Shoutcasting
  • Esports Coaching

All assessment is completed via coursework projects and assignments marked by the teacher. There are no exams in this course.

The primary focus of the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Esports is on progressing to employment across a range of roles within Esports. These include:

  • Esports player
  • Team coach
  • Event organiser
  • Shoutcaster and presenter
  • Social media influencer
  • Video production editor
  • Data analyst

Upon completion of the course, students can continue their education by pursuing a degree in fields such as events management, media or Esports, amongst other higher education programmes.

Please note that your place on the course is not automatic at enrolment. As part of your application, you will be required to submit a supporting statement outlining your interest in Competitive Gaming and the industry surrounding it, including areas such as (but not limited to); Competitive Analysis, Branding, Video Production, Games Design, Events Management, Health & Fitness and Shout-casting.

 

Students will be required to submit a MS Form answering the following questions:

  • How has your interest in Competitive Gaming and the surrounding industry influenced your desire to study Esports at St David’s?
  • What specific experiences or skills do you have that demonstrate your passion for Competitive Gaming and the surrounding industry?
