On 11 April 2025, 28 students and seven staff members stayed awake overnight for a challenging fundraiser experience for charity. Students organised overnight games and challenges for charity, and chose from a selection of 5 charitable causes. These included CAFOD World Hunger, Cancer Research, Maggie’s, Education in Lesotho, and Homelessness in Cardiff. These organised games helped to generate a total of £565.
Congratulations to everyone who organised and planned this event, especially to those who remained awake overnight to support these charitable causes. Below are some student experiences of the overnight fundraiser, detailing how it helped them to build new and stronger friendships:
“Throughout the event, I chose to raise funds for homelessness in Cardiff, because I believe that it is a massively increasing issue, pushing many people to survive on the streets, facing prejudice and injustice each day whilst having nowhere to protect themselves. Being able to advocate for this cause was fulfilling, I tried to share the fundraiser with as much as possible.
However, the event highlight has to have been the night itself. I met with new people, combined with a common goal of staying awake through the night. This built a sense of community, which I found valuable. The activities, people, and positive energy throughout made it all worth it.”
“I chose to fundraise for better education in southern Africa, believing education is important for everyone, as it helps with their futures. My experience of staying up for so long was great, as I stayed awake due to all the fun activities and having a great time in general. I enjoyed the whole night, mostly the karaoke, bingo and the late talks with everyone. If this were to happen again, I would love to participate.”
“The fundraiser was so much fun, talking with people I have never met, especially during the early morning hours, when everybody was tired, but that made it even better as we were just talking about anything and everything. My bingo fundraiser went down well (I think?), and people seemed to enjoy the activities throughout the night. Although it was very hard to stay up the entire time, I think it was worth it for the people I’ve made friends with now, and the amount of money raised for amazing causes!”
“It was very fun and well put together, everyone bonded so quickly and I’ve now made new strong friendships with the girls who took part, it wad a great opportunity to get to know other people and to find out a lot about them as we had all night to talk, I also managed to discover a family member who I didn’t know before!!”
