Former St David's students makes Welsh football history.

Former St David’s student, Sophie Ingle, has made history in becoming the first Welsh woman to play for Team GB in the Olympics this summer.

Sophie, who is capped 105 times for Wales, has 4 Great Britain caps to add to her already impressive list of achievements.

She began her career at a young age playing with the Vale Wanderers boys’ team. Despite making an appeal to the FAW, rules prevented Ingle for playing with the boys’ team from the age of 12. As a teenager Sophie joined Cardiff City Ladies, and represented Wales at U17 level, before captaining the U19 team.

Since, Sophie has had spells at Liverpool and Bristol City, and now plays for current Super League Champions, Chelsea.

Great Britain unfortunately exited the Olympics at the quarter-finals after an agonising defeat to Australia, in extra time.

Sophie is now the only Welsh woman to have represented Great Britain, and hopefully, paves the way for future young Welsh stars to follow in her footsteps.
