AFS Global Up Programme: Equipping Students with Essential Skills

Congratulations to our international learners on completing the AFS Global Up programme pilot. This initiative, part of the AFS Intercultural Programs, has empowered our students with essential global and intercultural skills that will be invaluable as they start their post-college journeys.

The AFS Global Up programme is designed to enhance learner’s global awareness, cross-cultural communication, and active global citizenship. Through a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning, individual assignments, and peer-to-peer interactions, the programme offers a comprehensive and dynamic experience for learners. Each student who participated in the programme demonstrated remarkable growth in their understanding of global issues and intercultural dynamics.

Learners engaged in a variety of activities throughout, including interactive virtual sessions, collaborative projects, and reflective exercises. These experiences not only broadened their perspectives but also equipped them with the skills needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected world, some of these skills gained include:

Communication Skills Across Cultural Boundaries: Students learned to communicate more effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.

Enhanced Empathy and Active Listening Abilities: The programme emphasized the importance of empathy in communication, enabling students to listen actively and engage more meaningfully with others.

Greater Understanding of Cultural Diversity and Global Interdependence: Participants gained deeper insights into the rich tapestry of global cultures and the interconnected nature of our world.

Our international learners shed thoughts on how they benefited from their experience within the AFS Global Up programme throughout their time at St David’s College:

“The AFS Global Up programme opened my eyes to different cultures and showed me the importance of empathy in communication.”

“I feel more prepared to work in diverse teams and have a better understanding of global issues.”

This initiative is to foster global students who are well-prepared to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. By participating in the AFS Global Up programme, our students have taken significant steps toward becoming informed and engaged global citizens, ready to contribute to a more understanding and interconnected world.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact our graduates will make as they apply their newfound skills and insights in their future careers. Congratulations, once again to our international learners on this remarkable accomplishment!
