This qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in IT systems, systems management, and social media in business.

Upon successful completion of the first year, learners will be awarded the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in IT (one AS Level equivalent). After completing the second year, students will achieve the full BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in IT (one A Level equivalent).

Learners are assessed through coursework and exams.

Equivalent in size to one A Level.

 

Unit 1: Information Technology Systems (External)

Learners study the role of computer systems and the implications of their use in personal and professional situations.

Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information (External)

Learners study the design, creation, testing and evaluation of a relational database system to manage information.

Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business (Internal)

Learners explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services. Learners also implement social media activities in a business to meet requirements

Unit 6: Website Development (Internal)
Learners investigate website development principles. They will design and develop a website using scripting languages.

This course is suitable for those studying in preparation for employment in the Information and Communication Technology sector, particularly in job roles where they will be expected to use ICT skills, liaise with users and carry out ICT support roles. This qualification is also suitable for those wishing to gain a Level 3 qualification to support further study in Further or Higher Education.

5 C’s at GCSE, or equivalent vocational qualification. Must include a minimum of a grade D in GCSE Maths.
