AS Level (year 1)

RS1 (1 hour 15 minute exam)

This unit provides the opportunity for learners to acquire and develop knowledge and a critical understanding of some of the key features of Christianity, ranging from religious figures to religious practices.

RS2 (1 hour 45 minute exam)

This unit is in two sections. Section A provides the opportunity for learners to acquire and develop knowledge and a critical understanding of key ethical concepts and theories, ranging from moral absolutism to Utilitarianism. Section B examines some of the key features of fundamental philosophical themes, ranging from arguments for the existence of God to religious experience.

A2 Level (year 2)

RS4 (1 hour 30 minute exam)

This unit provides learners with the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and broad study of fundamental ethical themes, ranging from ethical language and thought to freewill and determinism.

RS5 (1 hour 30 minute exam)

This unit provides learners with the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and broad study of fundamental philosophical themes, ranging from arguments for the existence of God to the use of religious language.

RS6 (1 hour 30 minute exam)

This unit provides learners with the opportunity to undertake an in-depth and broad study of four fundamental textual study themes relating to New Testament literature: miracles, parables, Letters and Apocalyptic.

Undertaking Religious Studies will enable students to develop skills including: analysis of ideas, critical judgement, research, reading and interpretation of texts, discussion and debate of controversial ideas, envisaging life at other times and in other places, appreciation and respect for other viewpoints, confident participation in group discussions.

Religious Studies is relevant for degrees in: archaeology, philosophy, history, law, medicine, sociology, psychology, social sciences, education, literature and general arts.

6 grade C’s at GCSE, including a grade C in English.
