Strengthening Mental Health Support in Our College

Over the past few weeks, 20 staff members have received specialist Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training. This initiative will strengthen the support available for mental health and its awareness throughout St David’s College, ensuring our learners receive quality care during their time in College.

This training provides staff with the essential tools to recognize early signs of common mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and stress. Additionally, it will enable them to provide immediate support to students facing mental health challenges and, when necessary, direct them to professional support—particularly in times of crisis.

Staff members undergoing specialist Mental Health training can be identified by their white lanyards and pins, which read “Mental Health First Aider.”

These staff members are specially trained and ready to support young people with guidance. Learners are encouraged to reach out for a conversation or advice, whether a minor concern or something more serious.

We’re proud that several of our dedicated staff members have completed their MHFA training. Their commitment to improving student well-being reflects the college’s ongoing dedication to creating a safe and supportive learning environment and community.

After completing the MHFA training, staff members will continue to receive ongoing support and additional training opportunities. Ensuring they stay updated with best practices and can provide learners with the most effective support.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the college’s efforts to address mental health concerns among young learners.
