The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is equivalent to two A Levels. It is a full time qualification.
The BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care covers a wide range of topics including elements of Psychology and Sociology and applies these to real life settings such as early years’ education and residential care to name just a few. This subject is useful for those wishing to enter professions such as teaching, nursing, midwifery, social work and work within the care sector. After successful completion of the first year, students gain an Subsidiary Diploma qualification. Students are then able to progress on to the second year to gain the full Diploma.
The diploma consists of eight units, with six mandatory units, and two optional units. The course is delivered over two years. All units are assessed and graded ‘pass’, ‘merit’, or ‘distinction’ and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. The course offers a range of vocational assessments – both practical and written. This means that students will be able to showcase their learning and achievements to best effect.
The optional units change each year to suit staffing and facilities, examples include:
This is a two-year course, however, students who successfully complete the first year, will receive a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care. Upon successful completion of the second year, students will receive the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. This qualifies students to study for a degree in related subjects such as Sociology, Psychology, or a BTEC Higher National Diploma in any related subject. Students also are equipped to enter relevant employment within the health and social care sector.
5 GCSEs A*-C. A grade C in GCSE English Language is desirable but not essential. Alternatively, a BTEC level 2 Diploma at merit or above would be accepted.
A DBS (previously CRB) check is a compulsory element to any Health and Social Care course which involves vocational practice. Students are expected to pay the full cost (£44 approximately), and additional costs may be incurred if sufficient evidence cannot be provided (passport/driving licence etc).
