Mrs Hember and Mrs Phillips, Heads of Advanced Skills

St David’s College is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Charlotte Hember and Mrs Hannah Phillips as joint Leaders of the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (ASBW). Both bring a wealth of experience to their new roles, having served as History teachers at the college and spearheaded various academic initiatives.

Mrs Hember, who previously led the Honours Programme and currently leads the Level 2 Programme, and Mrs Phillips, known for her involvement in transition projects, have taken a unique collaborative approach to this leadership role. Their shared vision reflects the college’s commitment to the qualification, which has proven transformative for learners in recent years.

“The idea of having two staff members as leaders of this programme was born from a desire to highlight just how crucial the ASBW is to St David’s College and its learners,” explained Mrs Hember. “This qualification equips our learners with not only academic skills and the practical competencies they need to excel in higher education and their future careers.”

Mrs Phillips echoed this sentiment, emphasising the qualification’s value. “Over the past few years, we’ve seen incredible benefits for students who embrace this programme. It’s been inspiring to watch them grow in confidence and achieve success across various disciplines.”

The Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales is designed to develop students’ problem-solving, research, and critical thinking skills, aligning with the college’s commitment to fostering well-rounded learners. The dual leadership approach aims to enhance the programme further, ensuring its continued impact on students’ academic and personal growth.

Principal, Geraint Williams, said “By appointing two outstanding educators to this role, we’re underlining its importance to our students’ academic journey and personal growth. The ASBW embodies what we aim to do at St David’s: to advance the whole person and both Mrs Hember and Mrs Philips have a vision for how qualification can be integral to our Catholic mission. Mrs Hember and Mrs Phillips bring complementary skills and shared passion to this role, ensuring our students and staff receive the best possible guidance as we advance.

St David’s College is confident that Mrs Hember and Mrs Phillips will bring innovation and excellence to their new roles, starting immediately.
